LIVING YOGA: 300-HOUR YOGA TEACHER TRAINING 2027
15-21 May Sri Lanka immersion + June to August select weekends in Singapore +
18-26 Sep India immersion

For a long time, I have felt ready and excited to facilitate a deeper, richer learning container for Yoga teachers, but this curriculum took years to come to fruition because 1) I really wanted to distill what I was bringing to the table and 2) I was waiting to put together the right team of teachers who share my values and vision.
I am aware that we live in a time when Yoga teachers are expected to know and do everything, often even what is typically outside the scope of Yoga (e.g. sound healing); and also a time when we are spoilt for choice when it comes to up-skilling. But I am very clear that this is not what this training is about. Because Yoga has never been a practice of addition; it is one of subtraction! Like chiselling stone to reveal the statue, the system teaches us to peel back the layers of false identification to reveal who we truly are – pure, unchanging awareness. So before we rush to accumulate more skills, perhaps what we first need to establish is an unshakeable grounding in the practice of Yoga as it was originally intended. What this means: Practising and teaching Yoga not as a creative class sequence or an empowered workout, but with the embodied understanding that self-realisation is the goal.
I have thus designed this 300-hour training to be just that. First, we build a strong foundation in Yoga's classical roots, and also expose ourselves to complementary Indic wisdom traditions like Vedanta and Ayurveda. We then work on refining our teaching skills to incorporate the learnings, so we can hold space in a way that is intentional, impactful and authentic.
Vedanta, taught by my Vedanta guru Niloofer Giri, is included as an important part of the curriculum. Like Yoga, Vedanta is one of the six classical systems of Vedic philosophy. Yoga provides the practical tools to purify and steady body and mind, while Vedanta provides the philosophical framework to understand the true nature of reality. Together, they form a well-rounded path to self-realisation. We will dive deep into Vedanta during our week-long immersion in Sri Lanka. Read more about the immersion here. Read more about Niloofer ji here.
I also have on board Dr. Vinayachandra Banavathy, a professor in Yoga psychology who holds a PhD in psychological insights from the Vedas. Dr. Banavathy is extremely well-versed with the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. During our South India immersion with him, we will not only learn to chant the Yoga Sutras, but also further our understanding of the gems of wisdom embedded in this iconic Yoga text. In my opinion, one cannot fully comprehend the depth and breadth of Yoga until one has experienced how it is practised, and lived, in India. Read more about the immersion here. Read more about Dr. Banavathy here.
As for me, my role as the lead trainer in this programme is to support you to digest, assimilate and integrate your learnings from all these wisdom traditions, and then apply the knowledge into your teaching in authentic, accessible and practical ways. I will be leading the Singapore session, imparting and refining teaching skills that will support you to grow into a more impactful, intentional teacher. Read more about me here.
Singapore modules
Module 1: Refinements in Yoga Physiology (5, 6, 12, 13 June)
This module bridges ancient wisdom with modern science. We will explore traditional Indic views of our subtle body through the systems of Ayurveda, pancha kosha, vayu and chakra, alongside modern views of physiology exploring the nervous, respiratory, endocrine and pelvic floor systems, and their relationship with breath and movement. For my 200-hour YTT graduates, this module both refreshes and builds upon what you have learned (e.g. the concept of dhatu in Ayurveda and how different Yoga practices affect each of the seven tissue layers). This module will be graded with a written closed book exam.
Module 2: Refinements in Sequencing, Theming and Teaching Methodology (3, 4, 10, 11, 17 July)
A coherent sequence, elevated by a solid theme, is the key to teaching impactful classes. In this module, trainees will be supported to practically apply the knowledge gleaned from module 1 into their teaching. We will work on sequencing and theming with depth and intent, and explore how to weave asana, pranayama and meditative practices into our sequences. We will also spend a significant amount of time learning to guide the subtler aspects of a class, such as pranayama and meditation. There will be daily teaching labs, where we will practise teaching and receive detailed constructive feedback. This module is designed to make you a more intentional and impactful teacher. It will be graded with a teaching exam.
Module 3: Refinements in Inclusive Teaching (31 July, 1, 7, 8, 9 August)
This module focuses on inclusive, empowered and trauma-informed space-holding in Yoga communities. We will refine our toolbox of non-verbal physical cues (postures and gestures), verbal speech (choice of words, tone, intonation) and empowering hands-on assists. We will dive into in-depth discussions around trauma, navigating power dynamics, how to set up safe, trauma-informed learning spaces, and how to manage tricky classroom dynamics. We will also go through case studies on how to modify our teaching for individuals or communities with specific needs, eg. teaching the elderly, prenatal/postnatal mothers, and practitioners with common musculoskeletal concerns like frozen shoulder.
If you teach, or foresee yourself teaching, multi-level classes, you will learn and practise teaching and holding space in such a way that you do not leave anybody out or behind. But more than that, this module is designed to help you become a more well-regulated individual and a more effective communicator.
Module 4: Business of Yoga and Mentorship (individually scheduled between 10 August to 12 September)
Our Singapore training culminates with group and individual mentorship sessions with Leigh. Scheduled across August and September, the sessions will differ person to person, and can cover topics ranging from your personal practice (sadhana) to further refining your teaching, to figuring out how you can navigate the Yoga world as a teacher or business owner with more ease and inner alignment.
Regular circle sharing and introspective discussions are part of the coursework, so participants should be open to a degree of vulnerability and honesty. I also teach based on energetic, intuitive alignment, which may be significantly different from what many practitioners are used to. It is recommended that you take at least a few classes with me (online or in-person) to familiarise yourself with my teaching style before committing to this training.
The training includes two compulsory immersions: a one-week immersion in Sri Lanka (15-21 May), and a nine-day immersion in South India (18-26 September). Because of public holidays in between, you need only take a total of eight working days off for the entire programme. The Singapore sessions are held on selected weekends from June to August at my Towner Road shala (two-minute-walk from Boon Keng MRT station).
This training is recognised by Yoga Alliance. This means that this certification will allow you to confidently apply for teaching positions in studios and countries that recognise RYT designations as the baseline credential for Yoga teachers. Everybody has varying opinions about Yoga Alliance. My stand is simple: To make your money's worth, so you avoid the need to re-earn or re-verify your teaching credentials, especially if you end up living or moving outside of Singapore.
