FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
300-hour Living Yoga Teacher Training
1. Are there any prerequisites to join this training?
You should ideally be a 200-hour trained, certified Yoga teacher. If you do not have a certificate, but have been practising Yoga for a long time and are keen to take this training for your own learning and growth — speak to me. I am always happy to make exceptions for sincere seekers.
2. Is this training recognised by Yoga Alliance?
Yes. This means that your certification will be recognised in any studio or country that recognises RYT designations as the baseline credentials for Yoga teachers.
3. Does this mean that you are on Yoga Alliance's side, in light of their recent controversies?
No. I decided to have this programme accredited by Yoga Alliance for YOU. In the event that you move out of Singapore and/or wish to teach Yoga overseas, it will be less likely that you need to re-verify or re-earn your teaching credentials.
4. Must I be actively teaching to join this training?
This training is suitable if you are simply looking to deepen your knowledge and to establish a more structured personal practice anchored in the original intent of Yoga. However, there will be teaching labs in module 2 that you will have to participate in. Even if you do not plan to teach in the future, being put in a place where you have to teach something would encourage you to even better embody the knowledge.
5. Can I sign up for the modules individually?
Yes! You can find the details on the training page. Scroll down to 'Individual modules'.
6. What style of Yoga do you teach?
Hatha Yoga. By that, I do not mean the slower, static style (compared to Vinyasa classes) that modern studios brand as Hatha Yoga. Hatha Yoga is an umbrella term for any style of Yoga that uses asana and pranayama as paths to mental and spiritual focus. My teaching is very much inspired by Sri Krishnamacharya's vinyasa krama, where breath plays an integral role in the entire practice.
7. Is this training suitable if my original teacher training was in other Yoga styles? (Vinyasa, Yin Yoga etc.)
Yes! You will be supported to apply the knowledge to your personal style of practice and teaching — whether it is Vinyasa, Yin Yoga etc.
8. How is this different from Living Yoga's 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training?
Our 200-hour teacher training programme is a foundational programme, aimed to equip keen Yoga seekers with an embodied understanding of the holistic practice of Yoga (way more than just asana!) as well as the fundamental skills of teaching Yoga accessibly, safely and confidently. This 300-hour training builds on that. We will dive even deeper into philosophy, scriptural study, subtle anatomy and physiology (we now turn our focus to systems, eg. respiratory, pelvic floor, endocrine etc; and not black and white anatomy, which you likely studied in your 200-hour training). We will also introduce perspectives and tools to refine the way you teach.
9. I graduated from Living Yoga's 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training programme. Will there be a lot of overlap in the curriculum?
No. There may be a little overlap in some subjects, but that too will be a refresher of foundational knowledge that we cover so as to build upon it with more in-depth explorations. I evolve every year, and my training material evolves along with me. Especially if you have graduated from my training several years ago, you may find the material we cover in this 300-hour curriculum to be wholly different.
10. Where can I find out more about the teaching faculty?
Read more about us here!
11. Why did you design this training to include two overseas immersions?
Environment plays a big part in the transmission of certain teachings, which may be difficult to absorb if your mind is stuck in the noise and pattern of daily routine. I am intentional about creating containers where the daily rhythm is extremely supportive of learning, reflection and contemplation. Bear in mind that learning does not only happen in the classroom. Stepping outside of our comfort zones and immersing ourselves into different cultures and ways of being can be deeply transformational.
12. Do I have to attend both overseas immersions?
Yes.
13. Are flight tickets included?
No. Please read both immersion pages in detail. Twin-share accommodation and all meals are included, but other expenditure is extra.
14. Where are the Singapore sessions held?
They are held in my shala in Towner Road, just a two-minute walk from Boon Keng MRT Station. I have two cats, but they will likely be hiding. For your comfort, you should not be seriously allergic to cats.
15. What happens if I miss a weekend session?
I get it, life happens. There will be make-up assignments to help you catch up on what you have missed. However, I strongly suggest that you prioritise being present at training sessions, as each session builds on the previous. You will not receive your graduation certificate if you miss more than 30 hours (that's about 3 days) of contact time.
16. What will I be qualified to do after completing the training?
You will be a 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT). Outside of teaching regular studio classes, you would likely feel equipped to teach special themed classes, workshops and short immersions. 500 hours of training is also the bare minimum if you plan to lead a Yoga teacher training that is accredited by Yoga Alliance in the future. You will then have to clock your teaching hours after this.
