LIVING YOGA: AMRITSAR X ANDRETTA NORTH INDIA RETREAT

The last retreat I hosted right before the pandemic took us by surprise was at Andretta, a charming artists' colony in North India's Himachal Pradesh. The cold, wintry days meant plenty of chai, sipped by the fire or on the terrace overlooking snowcapped mountains, and soul warming practices in the gorgeous glasshouse shala.

 

I am thrilled to return to this special slice of India in spring. For decades, artists, writers and poets have been drawn to Andretta to contemplate the deeper aspects of life, and that is exactly what we will do in the company of like-minded yogis. Our days will be bookended by daily morning and evening practice. Between that, there is plenty of downtime to soak in the ethereal beauty of mild, sunlit days and cosy nights. Hide out in the library for an afternoon of reading, take walks to the village and on nearby trails, spend some meditative time at the wheel with my friends Reyaz and Élodie from neighbouring pottery studio Atelier Lālmitti, and enjoy day excursions to soak up the Tibetan culture in the Norbulingka Institute and Dharamshala (where His Holiness the Dalai Lama resides).

Our trip starts on 1 March, when we land in Amritsar and stay overnight on the gorgeous grounds of the Taj Swarna. The next morning, we will pay a visit to the Golden Temple, before making the leisure five-hour drive up to Andretta. We will stay at my dear friend Denis' property, The Mirage, a charming hideaway in the mountains. The retreat ends after breakfast on 6 March. Transport will be arranged to drive you to Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, Amritsar, with a stopover at a lovely restaurant for lunch.

Please note

  • All rooms have ensuite baths and toilets, unless otherwise stated.

  • Daytime temperatures average at 20 degrees, and it can go down to a little below 10 degrees at night.

  • Denis' sweet-tempered dogs roam free on the property — you have to be comfortable with that.

  • All meals, plus two services of tea and biscuits a day at The Mirage (except lunch on 6 Mar, from Andretta to airport)

  • Twice-daily Yoga practice (except 1 Mar evening and 2 Mar morning in Amritsar)

  • Return transfer to Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport Amritsar; and return car transfer to and fro Andretta if you travel on recommended flights

  • Amritsar Golden Temple admission and tour

  • Expenses incurred should you test positive for Covid in India. Please make sure your travel insurance adequately covers this.

  • Mon 6 Mar 2023 Scoot flight to Singapore, departing Amritsar at 19:55 hrs

The retreat starts with a welcome dinner (around 8pm) at the Taj Swarna Amritsar on Wed 1 March, and ends at 11am on Mon 6 March after morning practice and breakfast. If you are flying back to Singapore on the recommended flight, there will be transport arranged to take you to the airport, with lunch (at your own expense) along the way.

Booking and cancellation policy

​

For ease of entry and travel throughout India, I can only host fully vaccinated participants. Before signing up, please first check with your consulate if your passport is eligible for an Indian visa (both e-visa and paper visa are accepted). 

​

The retreat will go on so long as international travel regulations allow quarantine-free travel between India and Singapore. Please stay updated with the latest information on the ICA website here.

​

Please email Leigh to register. A non-refundable S$500 deposit will be required to secure your spot. Your space is not confirmed until I confirm that I have received your deposit. The remaining fee is to be paid in full by Fri 30 December 2022.

  • Cancellations communicated in writing by 25 Feb 2023 will receive a 25% refund.

  • No refunds will be made after 25 Feb 2023.

  • To avoid paying the cancellation surcharge, you can get someone else to take your place on the retreat.

  • The cancellation policy above will remain in place regardless of your reason for dropping out, including spikes in Covid cases and acts beyond our control. This is a risk you assume upon registration. Please purchase adequate travel insurance upon confirmation of your spot on the retreat.
